SENIOR HIGH SUMMER TRIPS

Each year our senior high students take an unforgettable, life changing week long experience. We normally alternate between two types of experiences.

MISSION TRIPS
These trips focus on connecting our students with hurting people. Normally we have teamed up with group work camps for our mission trips. The thing we like most about working with this organization is that work teams focus totally on residential home repair. While there's nothing wrong with working on a church or school, the experience doesn't seem to be as meaningful as those where you are working with one family, in their home day after day. Paint, carpentry, adding a wheelchair ramp or building a new porch are all ways to help people KNOW the love of God. The wonderful thing about mission trips is that as we come face to face with the poor, we also in a very real sense meet Jesus in a new, more human way. Jesus said "as you've done it to the least of these...you've done it to me".  Students meet Jesus on mission trips in a way that they've never really met Him before.

ADVENTURE CAMPS

These week long camps focus on faith and risk. Christ calls us to walk by faith. What better way to experience what that means than dangling 60 feet above the ground knowing that the only thing keeping you safe is a thin multicolored climbing rope. Rappelling, mountain climbing, whitewater rafting are all part of our adventure camp experience. Every evening in the scenic majesty of the Rocky Mountains we share in worship, Bible study and sharing our daily adventures. For the past several camps we have used the Adventure Experiences Base Camp in Almont, CO.

SPECIAL EVENTS

SPECIAL EVENTS are exactly what the name implies. We try to alternate our special events with ELEV8 so that on almost every Sunday night of the year there is something happening for our high school students. Special events might be as simple as creating our own Drive-In theater, as goofy as playing "ultimate Octopi" (like ultimate frizbee but with seafood), as serious as creating a dinner theater with a goal of raising $10,000 for our summer trip, or taking everyone over to paint the home of someone who cannot afford to have it done. Of course the odd night of bowling, going to a concert or ballgame, also take place.

RETREATS AND BIG EVENTS

We have some retreats and big events that seem to happen almost every year. Here are a few.

  • GLORYBOUND - The Texas District Youth Gathering. It only happens once every three years, but when it comes - we're there. A 3 day conference either here, in Houston, or in Dallas or San Antonio. Great speakers, bands, events. The next Glory Bound event is November 28th 2008. See details at the bottom of this page.

  • WINTER ESCAPE- Sponsored cooperatively with Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring. Winter Escape is a 3 day (2 night) retreat usually held in December or January. With over 100 students taking part, it's a great time to make new friends and grow in the Lord together.

  • REFUGE WEEKEND - Usually held in the spring, this is a very unusual retreat in that we don't go away to camp, but rather spend time at church, and in homes. Throughout the weekend the entire group will get together for worship, a mission project, pizza, and of course an area wide youth rally where we expect 500 - 700 students from the area.

This year, the theme for refuge weekend
is "Storyline - Refuge '08" and will take
place Feb. 29th - March 2nd.

  • OCEAN PRAY (Crave the Wave) BEACH  CAMP: This is a beach trip to Galveston State Park for some "get away" time. Plenty of food, swimming, surfing, kite flying, volleyball with a little worship and bible study thrown in.
